Mister Vodka, the mixing monkey
The Mannville Arms

1. THE BASICS

In which we try to provide a very quick overview of our entire existence.

1.1 What?

A broad-based goth night in Bradford. Our basic objective is to provide a space and a soundtrack for like-minded folks to meet up, chat, and have fun.

1.2 Where?

The Mannville Arms (formerly the Head), at the bottom of Great Horton Road in Bradford's West End.

1.3 When?

Every Thursday, 7 while chucking-out time. Early experience suggests this is a conventional 11:20ish, but if we've got a particularly thirsty crowd this may stretch.

1.4 Why?

Because we were asked. Because there's nothing else happening in Bradford, save New Year and Infest. Because the venue management are enthusiastic about making the night work. Because it's an excuse to go to the pub every Thursday.

1.5 Who?

Mister Vodka, of Carpe Noctum infamy, and the Mannville management and staff. And you, hopefully. We're trying to build a real community night here.

2. THE MUSIC

In which we attempt to translate the aural experience into text.

2.1 What's the music policy?

It's still evolving, really. "Proper goth", certainly. Post-punk and stuff. Some guitar-based industrial. Some of the EBM/synthpop/futurepop end of the electronic spectrum (having scared the natives first time out with Ultraviolence). Whatever else seems to fit. The balance on any given night is very much in the hands of those who turn up, as you can see from the set lists..

2.2 Do you play requests?

Happily. If we've not got it on us, we'll try to bring it along the next week. Or bring a CD or two if you want.

2.3 Why do you always play x?

Because "x" is the name of the night. It's a bit early to be getting so presumptuous though.

2.4 Who DJs there?

Mister Vodka (Carpe Noctum, Carpe Diem, Infest Aftershow, Transmission, Amalgamation, Friday Flock, yadda yadda) and (hopefully) an assortment of guests. Nonemoreblack (former Carpe Diem resident) is a regular guest DJ, and Joel of Action Directe/ Integration/ Amalgamation fame has covered one night.

2.5 Can I DJ there?

Almost certainly! We'll give it a few weeks to bed in, but just pop over and ask and we'll sort summat out.

2.6 Do you have live bands?

We're hoping to, yes. Bearing in mind the pub venue/no door charge thing though, don't expect to see many big names.

3. ESOTERICA

Into which we shovel the trivia that doesn't fit elsewhere.

3.1 Why "Bad Moon Rising"?

Take your pick:
  1. All the good names where taken.
  2. What says "Yorkshire goth" better than the soundtrack to a werewolf film which featured Brian Glover?
  3. It doesn't include the words "Black" or "Dark".
  4. It isn't the name of a song by Joy Division or the Sisters.
  5. It makes the DJ think of Jenny Agutter in a nurse's uniform.
  6. All of the above

It's goth up North
